Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton has entered a residential treatment program nearly five weeks after a troubling TikTok livestream in which he appeared to harm himself. His family shared the update on his official website, confirming that he completed initial hospital care for physical injuries before moving into the next phase of his recovery.
Hilton Moves to Residential Care After Hospital Stay
Hilton was hospitalized on August 4, following the livestream that prompted widespread concern. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office confirmed at the time that he received medical attention after the incident. After several weeks of in-hospital treatment, his family announced he had taken the next step toward recovery.

“This was an important next step, but there’s still a long road ahead,” his family wrote. They added that Hilton is expected to remain in residential treatment for several more weeks, and possibly longer, depending on guidance from his treatment team. During this period, he does not have access to his phone or laptop, and his contact with family and friends remains limited so he can focus on getting better.
Earlier, on August 8, his family described his condition as “serious but stable.” At that point, he remained hospitalized under Florida’s Baker Act, a state law that allows authorities to hold someone involuntarily if they pose a threat of harm to themselves or others. His communication during that time was confined to immediate family, medical providers, and others directly involved in his care.
Family Addresses False Reports About His Condition
His family also moved to correct what they called several false reports circulating online about Hilton’s condition. They stated clearly that he has not lost ten years of his memory, does not believe it is 2016, and is not confused about his surroundings.
“He is lucid and communicates clearly with his family,” the statement read. In addition, the family denied claims that he has stitches or is covered in gauze. They also dismissed reports that he asked anyone to bring singer Katy Perry to visit him. “No family member, and no one authorized to speak on Perez’s behalf, provided these false claims,” the statement said.
Children in Grandmother’s Care During Recovery
Meanwhile, Hilton’s three children are together and in the care of their grandmother, who stepped in full-time during what the family described as “this unexpected chapter.” His family said their priority is providing the children with as much stability, routine, and normalcy as possible while their father focuses on his health.
“We are incredibly grateful for everything their grandmother is doing for them,” the family added.
Family Appeals for Compassion
Hilton’s family also used the statement to appeal for public compassion. They reminded readers that behind the well-known name is a real person. They described him as a father of three, a son, a brother, and a friend who reached a point of deep personal struggle.
“He thought the people he loved would somehow be better off without him,” the statement said. His family acknowledged his past behavior and noted that he has spent years recognizing, apologizing for, and working to grow from things he said and did earlier in his career.
Furthermore, the family addressed those who responded to the situation with mockery or celebration. “The internet has a way of preserving old versions of people, even when the person behind them has changed,” they wrote. “No one has to forget his past or accept his apologies. But we hope we can all agree that celebrating someone’s suicide attempt crosses a line.”
Despite the difficult circumstances, his family expressed cautious optimism. “Perez is alive, he’s getting help, and he’s surrounded by people who want to see him healthy and happy again,” the statement concluded.
On the platform side, TikTok confirmed that Hilton’s livestream was flagged and sent to its content moderation team within minutes. As a result, his account was banned from the platform because the content violated TikTok’s community guidelines. TikTok also alerted law enforcement to help get him support. His team noted that the only authorized statements about Hilton are those published directly to his website, PerezHilton.com.
