A violent Halloween weekend left at least six people dead and dozens more injured across the United States, as shootings struck nightlife and entertainment districts in several cities. The deadliest incidents unfolded in Dallas, Texas, where four people died and 15 others suffered injuries in multiple shootings in the Deep Ellum neighbourhood.
Dallas Shootings Spread Across Deep Ellum
Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux said three separate shootings occurred on Saturday night within roughly an hour and 15 minutes. Investigators were still working to determine whether the incidents were connected. Comeaux confirmed that officers made some arrests but did not specify how many or what charges applied.

The police department had already increased its presence in Deep Ellum before the shootings took place. “This is a really big scene. It’s spread out,” Comeaux said. No police officers suffered injuries during the incidents.
Birmingham Violence Follows Major Football Game
In Birmingham, Alabama, one person died and eight others were wounded in two shootings just outside Legion Field on Saturday night. The violence followed the annual Magic City Classic football game between Alabama State and Alabama A&M. Mayor Randall Woodfin confirmed the casualties at a Sunday news conference. Two victims remained in critical condition.
Nearly 70,000 fans attended the game, which Alabama A&M won 31–28. The event is one of the largest in its college football division. Birmingham Police Chief Michael Pickett said most spectators had already left the stadium when the first shooting occurred near vendor stalls along Graymont Avenue. Police spokesperson De’Rell Freeman said officers detained one person and recovered multiple weapons at the scene.
Shootings Near University Campuses
In Newark, Delaware, six people were shot late Saturday near the University of Delaware campus. Newark police Lt. Greg D’Elia confirmed all six were taken to hospital. A section of Main Street closed for several hours after the shooting. Video circulating on social media showed people fleeing the area.
In Bloomington, Illinois, a 19-year-old woman died and another woman was left in critical condition after a shooting early Sunday near Illinois Wesleyan University. Six additional victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Bloomington sits approximately 135 miles southwest of Chicago.
Meanwhile, in Fayetteville, Arkansas, six people were hospitalised with gunshot wounds from a shooting early Sunday near the University of Arkansas campus. Police said a preliminary investigation suggested an altercation preceded the shooting. No arrests followed.
Halloween Store Shootings in California and Michigan
The violent weekend also included two fatal shootings at Spirit Halloween stores on Friday. In Fairfield, California, a 31-year-old woman who was pregnant died in what police described as a targeted attack inside the store. Six others were wounded. No arrests were made immediately.
In Madison Heights, Michigan, north of Detroit, a 21-year-old man was fatally shot Friday afternoon. Police took a suspect into custody, though a man assaulted by bystanders during the arrest was hospitalised with non-life-threatening injuries.
