Winnipeg police are urging parents and guardians to carefully inspect their children’s Halloween candy after receiving two reports of metal objects hidden inside chocolate bars. The warning comes as similar incidents have also emerged in other parts of Canada.
Pins Found in Winnipeg Neighbourhoods
Both Winnipeg reports involve straight pins discovered inside mini chocolate bars. One incident occurred in the southeast of the city, on High Ridge Road in the Royalwood neighbourhood. The other took place in the northwest, on Sinclair Street in Garden City.

Similar Cases Reported Across Canada
The Winnipeg incidents are not isolated. Reports of sharp objects in Halloween candy have also surfaced in Ontario and Quebec.
In Ontario, Durham Regional Police are investigating after sewing needles turned up in candy collected in Oshawa. Meanwhile, Quebec provincial police confirmed reports of sharp metal objects found in candy in two separate locations — Drummondville, northeast of Montreal, and St-Marcel, east of Quebec City.
Parents Advised to Check Candy Carefully
Winnipeg police are asking parents to thoroughly examine all Halloween treats before allowing children to eat them. Anyone who discovers a suspicious object should report it immediately rather than discard it.
For non-emergency reports in Winnipeg, residents can call 204-986-6222. Police across the affected provinces continue to monitor the situation as further reports may emerge in the days following Halloween.
