The Winnipeg Jets ended a nine-game losing streak on Tuesday night in one of the most dramatic comebacks in recent NHL history. Trailing the Montreal Canadiens 4-0 with less than three minutes remaining, the Jets scored four goals in just two minutes and six seconds to force overtime. Dylan Samberg then scored his second goal of the season with 1:30 left in overtime to seal a stunning 5-4 victory.
A Historic Late-Game Surge
The four-goal comeback is the latest of its kind in NHL history. It also stands as the fastest four-goal sequence in Jets franchise history. Before the burst, Winnipeg had gone 128 consecutive minutes without scoring and had been outscored 13-0 across that stretch.

Tyrel Bauer started the comeback with 2:39 remaining, snapping his first career NHL goal past Montreal goalie Jacob Fowler. Just 42 seconds later, Morgan Barron made it 4-2. Kyle Connor then delivered two goals only 27 seconds apart, including a power-play strike with 33 seconds left, to tie the game and force overtime. Connor now has 13 goals on the season.
Bauer also added an assist and a fight, completing a Gordie Howe hat trick. “I don’t know if I’ve wanted to win a hockey game more in my life,” Bauer said after the game. “That’s a long hard stretch, but this group believed in each other.”
Connor and Samberg Deliver
Connor reflected on the team’s mindset heading into the game. “What a way to end a streak,” he said. “We came into today with such a good attitude and tried to live in the present.” He added that the team plans to use the win as momentum going forward.
Head coach Scott Arniel praised his team’s resilience throughout the night. “We played hard tonight,” Arniel said. “We had 86 shot attempts. Just the resiliency of our group to stay in it and find a way. That felt like a playoff win in there.”
Dominant Shots, Costly Finish for Montreal
Winnipeg dominated possession all night. The Jets posted a season-high 47 shots on goal and outshot Montreal 47-22. They also outshot the Canadiens in all three periods and in overtime.
For Montreal, the loss ended a five-game winning streak. Cole Caufield scored twice in a losing effort, while Josh Anderson and Owen Beck also scored for the Canadiens. Despite Fowler’s strong performance for most of the game, the late collapse proved costly.
Next, the Jets return home to face the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday. Vancouver currently sits last in the NHL standings. Puck drop is scheduled for just after 7 p.m.
