Leon Draisaitl delivered a dominant performance on Saturday night, scoring two goals and adding an assist to power the Edmonton Oilers past the Vancouver Canucks 4-2. Connor McDavid chipped in three assists as Edmonton snapped a two-game losing streak and improved to 12-3-3 on the season.
Oilers Offense Proves Too Much for Struggling Canucks
Mattias Ekholm and Jason Dickinson also scored for Edmonton. The Oilers have now gone 10-0-2 this season when they score first. Devon Levi returned from injury and made 20 saves, improving his record to 7-1-0 in net for Edmonton.

Meanwhile, Vancouver’s struggles continued. Max Sasson and Brock Boeser scored for the Canucks, but it was not enough. Vancouver has now lost five straight games and 15 of their last 16, sitting at a dismal 3-15-1 on the year. Leevi Merilainen made 26 saves in a losing effort for the home side.
McDavid Makes NHL History
McDavid extended his season-opening points and assists streak to 18 consecutive games. He now leads the entire league with 10 goals, 37 assists and 47 points. In doing so, he matched Adam Oates for the second-longest assist streak in NHL history. Only Wayne Gretzky’s 23-game streak, set in 1990-91, stands ahead of him. McDavid also became just the sixth player in NHL history to record a season-opening 18-game point streak.
Swedish forward Liam Öhgren could not extend his scoring streak to three games for Vancouver. The 22-year-old had scored four goals in his previous five games, including his first career power-play goal.
Key Moment Decides the Game
The decisive play came four minutes into the third period. McDavid set up Draisaitl with a cross-ice pass, and Draisaitl fired his signature one-timer past the Vancouver goaltender for his 15th goal of the season. The power-play strike gave Edmonton a 3-1 lead and effectively sealed the result.
Defenseman Evan Bouchard extended his personal points streak to six games. Both Bouchard and Draisaitl have recorded points in 16 of Edmonton’s 18 games this season.
A Tale of Two Teams
The gap between these two franchises is stark. Vancouver entered the game with a minus-30 goal differential and a troubling 4.61 goals against per game average. In contrast, Edmonton came in as the NHL’s highest-scoring team, averaging 4.12 goals per contest.
Both teams return to action on Monday. The Canucks host the Philadelphia Flyers, while the Oilers welcome the New York Rangers to Edmonton.
