Rita Wilson has confirmed she expects to return to Girls as Evie Michaels, the eccentric mother of Marnie Michaels, in the upcoming HBO revival of Lena Dunham’s acclaimed dramedy series.
When People magazine asked Wilson whether she would appear in the reboot, she responded with cautious enthusiasm. “That is what I’m hearing, so I don’t think Lena would be lying about that,” she said. Wilson also described herself as “so excited” about the show’s return.

The actress made clear her deep admiration for Dunham and the project. “Oh my gosh, yes. I mean, Lena is one of the most talented people I’ve ever worked with. I would do anything for her,” Wilson said. “I would bend over backward. And then I love Allison Williams who, you know, I was lucky enough to play her mom.” She added: “I know Lena’s gotta be cooking up something very good.”
HBO Greenlights Five-Episode Revival
Earlier this month, HBO officially greenlit the Girls revival. The limited series will run for five episodes, with production scheduled to begin in 2027. That marks roughly a decade after the Season 6 finale brought the original show to a close.
Dunham created the original series, which ran from 2012 to 2017. The show followed four friends navigating the chaos and dysfunction of their twenties in New York City. Dunham served as creator, showrunner and star throughout its run.
Original Cast Set to Reunite
All four core cast members will return for the revival. Dunham reprises her role as Hannah Horvath. Allison Williams returns as Marnie Michaels, Jemima Kirke as Jessa Johansson, and Zosia Mamet as Shoshanna Shapiro. Andrew Rannells also returns, reprising his role as Elijah Krantz.
Behind the scenes, Judd Apatow returns as executive producer through Apatow Productions. Dunham, Ilene S. Landress and Michael P. Cohen of Dunham’s Good Thing Going banner also serve as executive producers. Meanwhile, Williams, Kirke, Mamet and Rannells take on co-executive producer roles for the revival.
With the full original cast in place and Wilson poised to return, the Girls reboot is shaping up as a significant reunion for one of HBO’s most talked-about series of the last decade.
