Rajinikanth’s latest Tamil-language action comedy Jailer 2 made a powerful global debut over the October 16–18 weekend, landing at number two on the worldwide box office chart. The film earned $31.2 million globally, according to Rentrak estimates. Only Paramount’s Street Fighter performed better, pulling in $51.1 million to claim the top spot.
Strong Opening in India
Director Nelson Dilipkumar’s sequel opened in India on October 15. Over its four-day extended opening, the film grossed an estimated INR224 crore, equivalent to approximately $23.5 million. That result ranks as the third-highest four-day opening ever recorded for a Tamil-language film. It also places Jailer 2 almost exactly level with another Rajinikanth title, Coolie, which earned INR224.25 crore during its own extended debut.

The film launched with $7 million on Thursday. Collections dipped slightly on Friday but recovered steadily through the weekend. Sunday alone contributed $6.5 million to the total.
Tamil Nadu, the southern Indian state where the Tamil film industry is based, generated the largest regional share at $8.4 million. The neighboring states of Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana accounted for most of the remaining domestic earnings.
North America Performance
In North America, distributor Shloka Entertainments released the film across the region. Over the Friday-to-Sunday frame, Jailer 2 earned $3.2 million and debuted at number nine on the North American chart. Its cumulative total in the territory reached $5.2 million by Sunday. Shloka confirmed the film crossed $2 million on its opening day alone in North America.
Cast and Story
Jailer 2 continues the story from the 2023 hit Jailer. In the original, Rajinikanth played a retired prison warden who returns to violence after an idol smuggler threatens his family. He reprises his role as “Tiger” Muthuvel Pandian in the sequel. Returning cast members include Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu and Mirnaa.
Several new faces join the franchise this time. Tamil actor S.J. Suryah plays Bodhi Kalpak, while Bollywood star Vidya Balan takes on the role of Kaantha. Veteran Bollywood actor Mithun Chakraborty and Malayalam cinema actor Suraj Venjaramoodu also appear. Dilipkumar wrote and directed both films for producer Kalanithi Maran’s Sun Pictures. Composer Anirudh Ravichander returns to score the sequel as well.
The film also features brief appearances from stars across Indian cinema. Malayalam icon Mohanlal and Kannada star Shiva Rajkumar both return after making cameos in the first film, reprising their roles as Mathew and Narasimha respectively. Bollywood veteran Jackie Shroff plays the character Kamdev. Hrithik Roshan also appears as Roddy. His scene with Rajinikanth marks a reunion nearly 40 years after the 1986 Hindi film Bhagwan Dada, in which Roshan appeared as a child.
Rest of the Global Chart
Elsewhere on the worldwide chart, Sony’s Resident Evil ranked third with $22.6 million. Universal’s Other Mommy followed in fourth place with $17.9 million. Verity rounded out the top five with $17.6 million.
