A shooting near Florida A&M University’s Bragg Memorial Stadium in Tallahassee left 12 people injured Saturday night, including six minors. The attack occurred as the university hosted its annual homecoming football game, drawing large crowds to the area.
What Happened at the FAMU Homecoming Shooting
The shooting took place around 8 p.m. at an intersection next to Bragg Memorial Stadium. Earlier that evening, FAMU’s Rattlers had hosted the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions in the historically Black university’s homecoming game. Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell confirmed that 11 of the 12 injured victims were struck by gunfire.

Three victims suffered serious injuries. One of those in serious condition is a minor. The youngest person injured is just 11 years old. The remaining victims are in stable condition, according to police.
Revell described the incident as an altercation between a small number of people. “Our preliminary information shows that an altercation occurred between individuals,” he said, calling it “an isolated incident between two or three individuals.” Investigators believe one shooter was responsible.
No Arrests Made as Investigation Continues
As of Sunday morning, police had not made any arrests or taken anyone into custody. Revell urged witnesses to come forward. “Our priority is to determine what happened and why it happened, and to bring the people that are responsible for this to justice,” he said.
Revell also praised officers for their rapid response under dangerous conditions. He said officers ran without hesitation “into the middle of this, still not knowing where the shooters were, still not knowing how many victims we had.” Some officers carried injured victims in their arms because the crowd made it impossible to move through the area otherwise.
Universities Respond to the Violence
Shortly after the shooting, Florida A&M University posted a statement on X asking its campus community to avoid the area. The university described the shooting as occurring “near campus” and said the campus itself remained safe. “Our hearts are with the victims and everyone affected by tonight’s incident on Perry Street,” the statement read.
Meanwhile, Florida State University, located about a mile from FAMU, issued an emergency alert. FSU said it did not appear that anyone from its community was involved. However, as a precaution, the university advised students, faculty and staff in the Tallahassee area to remain indoors and stay alert.
The Tallahassee Police Department said the investigation remains ongoing. Authorities are continuing to gather evidence and are asking anyone with information about the FAMU homecoming shooting to contact police.
