The Toronto Maple Leafs delivered a dominant performance in Edmonton on Saturday, routing the Oilers 7-2 to extend their winning streak to four games. William Nylander led the charge with two goals, including the 300th of his NHL career, as Toronto improved to 7-4-2 on the season.
Nylander Milestone Highlights Leafs Offensive Surge
Jack Roslovic, Auston Matthews, Troy Stecher, Zack MacEwen and Vinni Lettieri also found the net for Toronto. The Leafs controlled the game throughout, giving goaltender Anthony Stolarz a comfortable night. Stolarz made 30 saves to secure the win.

For the Oilers, the loss ended a three-game winning streak. Leon Draisaitl scored both Edmonton goals, recording his third consecutive two-goal game. His 12th goal of the season leads the league and extended his goal-scoring streak to six games. During that stretch, Draisaitl has scored nine times. Tristan Jarry stopped 25 shots in the Edmonton net.
Key Moment Shifts the Game
A turning point came just 54 seconds after Toronto went up 2-0. Kirill Marchenko delivered a precise pass to Stecher in the slot, and Stecher converted for his second goal in as many games. The play effectively put the game out of reach early.
Meanwhile, both Matthews and Marchenko extended their season-opening road point streaks to five games. Matthews now sits just one point away from 800 career points. Reaching that milestone would make him the fastest player in Maple Leafs franchise history to achieve it. It would also make him the third-fastest American skater in NHL history to hit the mark.
McDavid Streak Continues Despite Loss
Despite the result, Connor McDavid continued his remarkable start to the season. He recorded two assists on Saturday, extending his season-opening points streak to 11 games. Over that span, McDavid has accumulated an extraordinary 33 points. He entered the game averaging 3.10 points per game.
Toronto’s dominance at Rogers Place also stands out as a notable trend. Since Edmonton moved into their current arena, the Maple Leafs have gone 12-2-1 there. In addition, Toronto’s penalty kill has been one of the league’s best this season. The Leafs had killed 40 of 41 opposing power plays and ran off 30 consecutive kills before Edmonton finally converted late in Saturday’s game.
Next, the Maple Leafs travel to Calgary to face the Flames on Monday. The Oilers, meanwhile, host the Detroit Red Wings on the same night.
