The B.C. Lions dominated the Montreal Alouettes 48-29 on Saturday in Vancouver, with running back Zander Horvath delivering a standout performance by scoring three touchdowns. The victory gave the Lions a 7-6 record on the season and closed out a home-and-home series against Montreal, who had beaten B.C. 37-30 the previous week.
Lions Build Early Lead
B.C. wasted no time establishing control. The Lions Football players jumped out to a 17-0 lead early in the second quarter, though Montreal quickly rallied to cut the deficit to just four points before halftime.

Quarterback Nathan Rourke completed 24 of 33 passes for 317 yards. He also added 77 rushing yards and scored a rushing touchdown of his own. Early in the game, a successful challenge by head coach Buck Pierce proved crucial. Officials reviewed a play where Tyrice Beverette appeared to intercept a Rourke pass in the end zone. After review, they ruled Lorenzo Burns had committed pass interference, placing B.C. at the one-yard line. Horvath then plunged in to make it 10-0.
Seconds into the second quarter, defensive lineman Casey Sayles forced a fumble and sprinted in for a touchdown, pushing the Lions’ lead to 17-0. The turnover also ended Alouettes quarterback Davis Alexander’s remarkable streak of 108 consecutive pass attempts without an interception.
Montreal Fights Back Before Halftime
Montreal refused to fold. Alexander connected with Tyson Philpot on a 26-yard touchdown pass to get the Alouettes on the board. Shortly after, Tyrice Beverette sacked Rourke, forcing a fumble that defensive tackle Mustafa Johnson scooped up and returned for a touchdown. Suddenly, the Lions’ lead had shrunk to four points.
Both Football players teams then exchanged touchdowns. Rourke found Keon Hatcher Sr. in the end zone under pressure, while Alexander answered with a deep ball to Tyler Snead, making it 24-20 for B.C. With 35 seconds left in the half, Rourke kept the ball himself on a snap and darted to the corner of the end zone for another score. Kicker Sean Whyte converted to put B.C. ahead 31-20. Jose Maltos Diaz added a 25-yard field goal for Montreal as time expired in the half, sending the teams to the locker room with B.C. leading 31-23.
Horvath Seals the Win in the Second Half
The third quarter was tight. Maltos Diaz hit a 33-yard field goal to narrow the gap further. However, Horvath broke the stalemate by muscling through traffic for his second touchdown of the night, extending B.C.’s lead.
The game also brought a concerning moment. During the ensuing kickoff return, Montreal receiver Devonte Dedmon suffered an apparent leg injury and left the field on a cart.
With less than five minutes remaining, Horvath scored again, diving across the goal line for his third touchdown of the game and his 16th of the season. Maltos Diaz answered with a 50-yard field goal for Montreal, but Whyte sealed the result with a 42-yard field goal to set the final score at 48-29.
Alexander finished with 242 passing yards for the Alouettes, who fell to 10-3 on the season. Whyte contributed two field goals for B.C., including the game-clinching kick. Next, Montreal visits the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Friday, while the Lions enjoy a bye week before hosting the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Friday, September 25.
