British Columbia NDP Leader David Eby has announced plans to introduce a new tax bracket targeting high earners if his party wins re-election on October 24. The proposed millionaire tax would apply to individuals earning $1 million or more annually, with the revenue directed toward funding public health care.
Eby made the announcement on Sunday while campaigning in Comox on Vancouver Island. He had previously toured ridings across southern British Columbia ahead of election day.

Details to Follow at Victoria Campaign Stop
Eby told supporters he would provide additional details about the new tax bracket at a later campaign stop in Victoria. He framed the proposal as a matter of fairness, saying his party celebrates financial success but also believes it is right to ask those who earn more to contribute during a time when strong public services are needed.
“People who earn a little bit more,” he said, should “pitch in in a moment like this.”
Part of a Broader Campaign Platform
The millionaire tax proposal builds on a series of economic announcements Eby has made during the campaign. Earlier, he pledged to introduce price protections on certain groceries, as well as on gasoline and diesel. He also announced a temporary 10-cent-per-litre reduction in the provincial motor fuel tax.
Furthermore, during the early stages of the campaign, Eby said his party would introduce a new tax on empty condominiums. He also committed to expanding the existing speculation and vacancy tax.
Together, these measures form the core of the BC NDP’s economic platform ahead of the October 24 vote. The party is presenting the millionaire tax as a targeted and practical way to protect public health care without placing additional burden on middle-income earners. As the campaign enters its final weeks, Eby is expected to release further details on how the new tax bracket would be structured and implemented.
