Family Remembers a Devoted Soldier and Son
Wong’s family described him as someone who consistently showed up for the people around him. “He was an incredible person who was always there whenever anyone needed him,” they said in a statement. They also noted that he loved staying active and spending time with friends and family.
His family added that they were “extremely proud” of him and that he, in turn, was proud to serve in the Canadian Armed Forces. Their words painted a picture of a young man deeply committed to both his community and his country.
Wong was born in Edmonton and graduated from the University of Alberta in 2022 with a Bachelor of Commerce degree. He also earned certificates in real estate and civil-military leadership. That same year, he began serving as a medical first responder with St. John Ambulance.
A Military Career Cut Short
Wong joined the Canadian Armed Forces in December 2017. He went on to serve on Operation Reassurance in Latvia from October 2024 to June 2025. His death came while he was preparing to return to Europe for a second deployment.
The CFB Wainwright fire claimed the lives of four Armed Forces members in total. All four died during training exercises designed to prepare soldiers for active overseas service. Authorities have not yet released full details about the cause of the fire.
Global News will livestream the funeral service for Sergeant Morgan Wong. The service offers family, friends, fellow soldiers, and the broader public an opportunity to pay their respects to a young man who dedicated his life to serving others.
