Dennis Haskins, the actor who became a household name through his role as Principal Richard Belding on the beloved 1990s sitcom Saved by the Bell, has died at the age of 75. His agent, Jay Schachter, confirmed the news early Tuesday in a statement to Variety. No further details about the cause of death were disclosed.
Agent and Colleagues Pay Tribute
Schachter remembered Haskins with deep affection. “It’s a tragic loss,” he told Variety. “Everyone loved Mr. Belding, and those of us who got to know Dennis loved him even more.” Schachter added that Haskins was devoted to his fans and always made time for them. “He was my client and dear friend for over 20 years, and I will miss him terribly. I’m heartbroken,” he said.

Lark Voorhies, who played Lisa Turtle alongside Haskins on Saved by the Bell, also shared her grief. She posted a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, writing that knowing Haskins for nearly 40 years had been “one of the truest blessings” of her life. “We shared so much history together from our earliest days,” she wrote. “Through it all, he remained a fabulous person, a loyal friend, and someone with such a kind, gentle heart.” She concluded her post with, “Rest in peace Dennis, you will always hold a special place in my heart.”
Meanwhile, the official Instagram account for Mario Lopez’s radio show also paid tribute. Lopez, who played A.C. Slater on the show, shared a photo of himself with Haskins. The caption read simply: “RIP Dennis Haskins. Everyone’s favorite principal.”
A Career Defined by Bayside High
Saved by the Bell aired from 1989 to 1993. The sitcom followed a group of students at the fictional Bayside High School in Southern California. Haskins played the school’s well-meaning but often outmaneuvered principal throughout the series. His character, Mr. Belding, became one of the most recognizable figures in 1990s television.
After the original series ended, Haskins reprised the role in Saved by the Bell: The New Class, which ran from 1993 to 2000. His commitment to the character across both shows spanned more than a decade of television.

Beyond Saved by the Bell, Haskins also appeared in several other well-known productions. His additional credits include Magnum, P.I., The Twilight Zone, and How I Met Your Mother. However, it was his long-running role as Principal Belding that defined his legacy for millions of fans worldwide.
