Nova Scotia’s police watchdog has launched an investigation after a hit-and-run incident in Halifax involving a pickup truck that city police were actively following at the time of the collision.
Halifax police say officers began pursuing a black Ford F-150 after the truck fled a parking lot in Dartmouth at high speed on Saturday. The vehicle had no licence plate, which initially drew police attention.

Truck Ignored Police Lights and Sirens
Officers activated their lights and sirens during the pursuit. However, the truck’s driver refused to stop. The vehicle then struck another car at an intersection, seriously injuring the driver of that vehicle.
The victim, a 58-year-old man, sustained serious injuries in the collision. Emergency responders transported him to hospital following the crash.
Suspect Vehicle Crossed Bridge and Remains Missing
After the collision, the black Ford F-150 continued onto the A. Murray MacKay Bridge, which connects Dartmouth to the Halifax peninsula. As of the time of reporting, police had not yet located the truck.
Because city police were directly involved in the pursuit at the time of the incident, Halifax police referred the matter to Nova Scotia’s Serious Incident Response Team. The provincial watchdog investigates cases where police conduct may have contributed to serious injury or death.
The investigation remains ongoing. Police have not released further details about the identity of the truck’s driver or any suspects connected to the vehicle.
