Originally scheduled to premiere on November 4, Disney+ released the show a day early. The platform described the decision as a gesture of gratitude toward its fanbase.
What the Show Is About
The Remarried Empress adapts the popular Naver Webtoon series of the same name. The story follows Empress Navier and Emperor Sovieshu, rulers of the Eastern Empire, whose marriage begins to collapse under growing tensions. The situation worsens when Sovieshu falls for Rashta, an escaped slave, and pursues her relentlessly.
Rather than surrender her dignity, Navier strikes a deal. She agrees to the emperor’s wishes on one condition — that she gains the freedom to marry Heinrey, crown prince of the rival Western Kingdom. Her fight to reclaim her power puts the entire empire at risk.
Cast and Production
Shin Mina, known for Karma and Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha, leads the cast as Navier. Ju Jihoon, from Light Shop and The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call, plays Sovieshu. Lee Jongsuk of Big Mouth portrays Heinrey, while Lee Seyoung, known for The Red Sleeve and The Crowned Clown, takes on the role of Rashta.
Director Cho Suwon, whose previous credits include Still 17 and Pinocchio, helms the series. Yeoh Geena and Hyun Choongyeol wrote the screen adaptation.
Strong Anticipation Before Release
Excitement for the series had been building well before its premiere. Preview screenings at the Busan International Film Festival sold out completely. Meanwhile, the payoff trailer accumulated 13 million views across YouTube and social media platforms within just 48 hours.
The source webtoon has also drawn close to 3 billion views since it first launched, reflecting the story’s enormous existing fanbase.
The first four episodes are currently streaming. Two additional episodes will follow each Wednesday from November 11, with the finale set for November 25. The series streams exclusively on Disney+ and Hulu.
Outside the United States, Hulu functions as an entertainment banner within the Disney+ platform. In the US, subscribers on bundle plans can access Hulu content directly through the Disney+ app.
