Dennis Haskins, the actor who became a beloved television figure through his role as Principal Richard Belding on Saved by the Bell, has died at the age of 75. His agent confirmed the news on Monday. No cause or manner of death has been made available.
Jay Schachter, head of film and television at Stewart Talent in New York City, described the loss as deeply felt. “It’s a tragic loss,” Schachter said in a statement. “He was my client and dear friend for over 20 years, and I will miss him terribly. I’m heartbroken.”

A Role That Defined a Generation
Haskins played Principal Belding on the NBC high school comedy series from 1989 to 1993. The show made him a recognizable face for millions of fans across the country. His portrayal of the well-meaning but often outwitted school principal resonated with audiences of all ages.
Schachter reflected warmly on the actor’s connection with his fanbase. “Everyone loved Mr. Belding, and those of us who got to know Dennis loved him even more,” he said. “He was a great person, and he loved — I mean absolutely LOVED — his fans.”
Haskins later reprised the role on Saved by the Bell: The New Class, which ran on Saturday mornings on NBC from 1993 to 2000. After that series ended, he continued working in film and television, including an appearance on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

Haskins grew up in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and studied at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. During his time there, he reported for the student newspaper, performed in campus productions, and co-founded a community theater group called the Harlequins.
Before entering acting, he worked in the music industry as a manager, agent, and concert promoter. His clients included notable names such as Tom Jones and Gregg Allman. He later transitioned to television, landing early roles on Magnum, P.I. and The Twilight Zone.
His breakthrough in acting came in 1988, when he first played Mr. Belding on Disney Channel’s Good Morning, Miss Bliss. The following year, NBC relaunched the show as Saved by the Bell, and Haskins’ place in television history was secured.
