Canadian singer-songwriter Jann Arden will headline a free pro-unity concert in Calgary later this month, joining a lineup of Alberta performers ahead of the province’s high-stakes referendum on separation from Canada.
Calgary Concert for Unity Set for September 20
The Forever Canadian campaign announced its “Calgary Concert for Unity” will take place on September 20 at The Confluence Historic Site, also known as Fort Calgary. The event aims to promote national unity as Alberta prepares for a pivotal public vote in October.

Folk musicians Celeigh Cardinal, Reuben Bullock, and John Wort Hannam will also perform at the event, alongside jazz singer Caity Gyorgy. The campaign describes the concert as an opportunity for Albertans to gather as “loud and proud Canadians.”
Alberta Referendum Scheduled for October 19
On October 19, Albertans will vote in a referendum that asks, among other things, whether they wish to remain part of Canada or proceed to a second, binding vote on separation. The outcome could have far-reaching consequences for the province and the country.
Supporters of separation argue that Alberta does not need the federal government in Ottawa and is capable of functioning as an independent entity. Opponents counter that Canada can work for Alberta and warn that leaving Confederation could put Indigenous treaty rights at serious risk.
