Calgary got goals from William Stromgren, Joel Hanley and Joel Farabee. Morgan Frost and Zayne Parekh each added two assists for the Flames, who fell to 7-9-1. The loss ended Calgary’s five-game home winning streak.
Anaheim starter Lukas Dostal struggled early, surrendering three goals on just 11 shots before leaving in the first period. Ville Husso replaced him and delivered a strong relief performance, stopping all 10 shots he faced to improve to 2-3-0. Calgary’s Dustin Wolf made 24 saves in his third straight start but dropped to 3-5-1.
Third-Period Power Play Decides the Game
Calgary carried a 3-2 lead into the third period. However, just 17 seconds in, Matt Coronato received a delay-of-game penalty. Anaheim’s power play, currently ranked second in the NHL, capitalized immediately. Carlsson tied the game at 0:55 with his sixth goal of the season. The goal also extended his point streak to seven games.
Gauthier then delivered the winner at 18:26, one-timing a pass from Granlund. It was his 12th goal of the season and his 10th over the five-game streak. Nesterenko added an empty-net goal to seal the result.
Notable Individual Milestones
Defenceman Jackson LaCombe recorded an assist to push his point streak to nine games, totaling 13 assists in that span. That streak is now the longest in franchise history for a Ducks defenceman, surpassing marks previously held by Scott Niedermayer and Oleg Tverdovsky.
For Calgary, Hanley returned to the lineup for the first time since October 3, replacing Kevin Bahl, who was a late scratch with a lower-body injury. Meanwhile, Farabee scored in his fifth straight home game. He became the first Flame to accomplish that since Elias Lindholm scored in seven consecutive home games during the 2021-22 season.
A key moment came midway through the second period. With Calgary on the power play, Husso made a crucial pad save to deny Coronato from close range. That stop helped Anaheim maintain their foothold in the game.
In terms of special teams, Anaheim’s power play has been exceptional recently, going 13 for 23 over the past five games. After ranking 23rd in the NHL on the man advantage last season, the Ducks now sit second overall.
Both teams return to action on Sunday. Anaheim hosts the Pittsburgh Penguins, while Calgary welcomes the Philadelphia Flyers.
