A 67-year-old California resident died on Georgian Bay over the weekend after a vessel capsized north of Franklin Island, Ontario Provincial Police have confirmed.
The West Parry Sound OPP Marine Unit responded to the incident at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Sunday. Officers arrived to find the vessel had capsized, with a single occupant on board.

Authorities identified the victim as a 67-year-old from California. Police have not released the individual’s name at this time.
Multiple Agencies Responded to the Scene
Several organizations assisted OPP at the scene. The Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre, the Carling Fire Department and Killbear Marina all supported the response effort.
Together, the agencies worked to manage the situation on the water. The vessel has since been removed from Georgian Bay.
Investigation Remains Ongoing
OPP say the investigation is continuing. The OPP technical collision investigation team is assisting officers as they work to determine the cause of the capsizing.
Georgian Bay is a large body of water off Lake Huron in Ontario. The area north of Franklin Island, where the incident occurred, is a popular destination for boaters during the summer months.
OPP have not released further details about the circumstances surrounding the capsizing. Authorities are expected to provide updates as the investigation progresses.
