Fantasy author Sarah J. Maas has shattered her own sales record with the release of A Court of Splintered Harmony, the sixth book in her A Court of Thorns and Roses series. The novel sold 1.7 million copies on its first day of release, Tuesday, October 27, according to Variety.
Record-Breaking Debut Sales
Publisher Bloomsbury confirmed the 1.7 million figure covers preorders and day-one sales across English-language print and ebook editions. The count includes major retailers and independent bookstores in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia. Audio book sales and translated editions are not included in that total.

The result marks a 600% increase over the debut-day sales of A Court of Silver Flames, the fifth book in the series, which released in 2021. With those figures, A Court of Splintered Harmony is currently tracking as the largest book release of 2025.
Maas responded to the news with a personal statement. “When I write, I’m only thinking about the characters and the stories I want to tell,” she told Variety. “To see how much these books mean to so many people and the way readers have shown up for this one really blows my mind. It’s a feeling I can’t even comprehend, but I’m just beyond grateful.”
A Milestone for Maas
The release also marks a broader career milestone. Maas has now sold more than 100 million books worldwide across her three fantasy series: A Court of Thorns and Roses, Throne of Glass and Crescent City. Her team confirmed that figure alongside the launch of the new book.
A major marketing push supported the release. Dozens of brands, including Funko and For Love & Lemons, released official ACOTAR-inspired merchandise in collaboration with Maas over recent months. In addition, around 2,000 midnight release parties took place globally to celebrate the book’s launch.
What Comes Next for ACOTAR
A Court of Splintered Harmony continues the story of sisters Feyre, Nesta and Elain Archeron in the faerie realm of Prythian. However, fans will not have to wait long for the next installment. Book 7, titled A Court of Forgotten Melody, is scheduled for release on January 12.
Maas has previously explained that these two new books form parts of a larger story arc called The Valkyrie Cycle. The sixth book covers Movement I, while the seventh covers Movements II and III. A currently untitled third novel will conclude the four-part cycle.
The ACOTAR series has built an enormous following over the past several years, particularly on TikTok’s BookTok community. Women-centered, romance-heavy fantasy novels have grown significantly in popularity within publishing and have attracted increasing attention from Hollywood. Meanwhile, a planned television adaptation of ACOTAR at Disney’s 20th Television and Hulu, with Ronald D. Moore attached as showrunner, was cancelled in February 2025 due to creative differences. The rights have since returned to Maas.
