A Vancouver mother refused to let an emergency C-section stop her from attending Taylor Swift’s concert on Saturday night.
Erin Button, who was 34 weeks pregnant, went to Lions Gate Hospital after noticing her baby’s movements had decreased significantly just 24 hours before Swift’s performance.
“At first, everything seemed fine, but suddenly, they told me I needed an emergency C-section,” Button recalled.
Her baby boy, Wesley, was born six weeks early, just one day before the concert.
“I was relieved he was healthy, but I couldn’t help thinking, ‘I have Taylor Swift tomorrow!’” Button joked.
Having purchased tickets over a year ago, before she knew she was pregnant, Button didn’t want to miss the long-awaited event. Thankfully, the hospital staff made sure she didn’t have to.
“I didn’t want to leave him, but the doctors and nurses at Lions Gate were amazing. They reassured me that Wesley would be well cared for in the NICU,” she said.
Encouraged by the staff, Button was discharged for a brief three-hour window. Her husband rented a wheelchair and drove her to BC Place.
“We made arrangements for her to attend safely, and her friends adjusted her seats to an accessible section,” said Matt Green, her husband.
As she approached the stadium, emotions ran high. Greeted by her excited, glitter-covered friends, Button felt the surreal mix of motherhood and fandom. Her friends took turns sitting beside her during the concert, ensuring she had a memorable night.
Reflecting on the weekend, Button wondered if Wesley’s early arrival was his way of rebelling against the constant Taylor Swift music she played during her pregnancy.
“Maybe he was just tired of hearing Taylor Swift nonstop,” she laughed.
Button says it’s an unforgettable story she and her husband will one day share with Wesley.
“I’m so grateful everything worked out, and I’ll always remember the kindness and support of the hospital staff,” she said.
