Actress Inde Navarrette packed a remarkable amount into one weekend. On Saturday, she attended the Academy Museum Gala. The very next day, she appeared at the Newport Beach Film Festival, where Variety named her one of its 10 Actors to Watch. The festival honored those selected actors during a special brunch event and runs through Thursday in Newport Beach.
Navarrette Reflects on the Academy Museum Gala
Speaking with Variety’s Marc Malkin on the festival carpet, Navarrette described the gala as “amazing.” She said the experience felt overwhelming in the best possible way. “You’re just overwhelmed and kind of drowning in everybody that you have looked up to, possibly ever,” she told Malkin. “It’s just so lovely meeting people.”

Navarrette also spoke warmly about the reception her show Obsession has received. “I’m just so honored to go and be with the members of the Academy and just get an inside scoop on what that magnificent world is like,” she said.
Two encounters from the gala stood out to her in particular. She met both Jessica Lange and Pamela Anderson during the evening. “I spoke to Jessica Lange, who is an icon,” Navarrette said. She also praised Anderson, adding: “The way that Pamela carries herself with such grace and honesty and just pure creativity and love is just exactly who I want to be.”
SNL Halloween Episode Ahead
Beyond the festival, Navarrette has a high-profile television appearance coming up. She will host this year’s Saturday Night Live Halloween episode. Singer Gracie Abrams joins her as the musical guest for the broadcast.
Navarrette said she still can hardly believe the opportunity. “I literally feel like I snuck in,” she joked. However, she made clear she wants to keep the details private for now. “I’m super excited to keep everything under wraps because I really truly want to make this super fun for the audience,” she explained. She added that she looks forward to collaborating with the show’s writing team.
Rogue Role in Upcoming X-Men Film
Further down the road, Navarrette will also appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s upcoming X-Men film. She will play Rogue, a role that Anna Paquin originally brought to life on screen.
Navarrette told Malkin she has not spoken directly with Paquin. However, she feels a connection to the role goes back much further. “The correspondence started when I was younger, when I really fell in love with the X-Men movies in the first place,” she said.
As part of her preparation, Navarrette will undergo stunt training for the superhero film. She admitted the physical demands give her extra motivation. “I think it’s also a really good excuse to get in the gym,” she said with a laugh. “I’m the laziest person, and I am very excited to get up and move my body.” She added that she has always wanted to take part in that kind of training.
With Obsession gaining strong attention, an SNL hosting slot on the way, and an MCU role confirmed, Navarrette’s career is clearly moving at full speed heading into the end of 2026.
