Four people died on Saturday afternoon after a helicopter crashed and caught fire in the Montérégie region of Quebec, provincial police confirmed.
The Sûreté du Québec said the crash occurred just after 2:30 p.m. in the Rang des Écossais area. The helicopter came down in a field in the municipality of Sainte-Brigide-d’Iberville, located southeast of Montreal.

Fire Breaks Out at Crash Site
The helicopter caught fire following the crash. However, police say it remains unclear whether the fire started while the aircraft was still in the air or broke out as a result of the impact.
Fire crews responded quickly and brought the blaze under control within an hour. Emergency personnel declared all four occupants dead at the scene.
Investigation Now Underway
The Sûreté du Québec’s major crime unit is now leading an investigation into the incident. In addition, authorities have notified the Transportation Safety Board of Canada, which will also examine the crash.
Officials have not yet released the identities of the four victims. Further details are expected as the investigation continues.
