A Title She Held Until the End
Sisic received her crown in 2024. According to Austrian outlet Kronen Zeitung, no further pageants took place after her victory. As a result, she remained the reigning Miss Austria at the time of her death.
Beyond her title, Sisic was known for her openness about living with a serious health condition. She had a heart valve defect from birth and underwent multiple operations throughout her life. Despite these challenges, she remained publicly positive and grateful.
A Heartfelt Tribute to Her Medical Team
In August 2024, Sisic shared a moving post about her pediatric cardiology team. She used the message to express deep gratitude for the care she had received over the years.
“Dear team of pediatric cardiology, I would like to express my gratitude,” she wrote. “Thanks to the specialists and the dedicated doctors, who have always saved my life with great efforts, I have overcome many difficult moments and have been able to live a fulfilling life.”
She also reflected on her personal strength. “I’m proud for not giving up even though there were many reasons to,” she added. “I find it difficult to find the right words to express my gratitude, because a simple thank you is far from enough.”
In the same post, Sisic announced she was moving forward into adult cardiology care. She described it as “saying goodbye” and “starting a new chapter.” She closed with an encouraging message to her doctors. “Your work is invaluable, and I hope that you can continue to help as many people as effectively as I have. Trust your heart because it beat before you could think,” she wrote.
An Outpouring of Grief
The loss of Lucia Sisic has prompted an outpouring of grief from those who followed her journey. Her willingness to speak openly about her health made her a relatable and inspiring figure to many. Mission Austria described her as a young woman who touched everyone around her.
She was 22 years old. Authorities have not yet released further details about the circumstances of her death.
