A man missing for nearly six days in the rugged terrain near Squamish, British Columbia, has been found alive with only minor injuries, according to Sea to Sky RCMP and Squamish Search and Rescue officials.
Stanislav Volo was reported missing on August 30. After an extensive multi-agency search, crews located him on the Indian Arm Forest Service Road, a remote area situated behind the mountain range above Squamish. Volo walked out on his own before rescuers reached him.

Authorities transported Volo to hospital, where his injuries were assessed as minor. Sue Nicholson of Squamish Search and Rescue described the result as encouraging. “It looks like a very good outcome, very strong young man, he’ll be fine,” she told Global News.
One of the Most Complex Searches in Nearly Two Decades
Tyler Duncan, operations director and search manager with Squamish Search and Rescue, confirmed the news with relief. “We have fantastic news today. Staz has been found,” he said. Duncan, who has worked in search and rescue for close to 20 years, called the operation one of the most demanding he has ever managed.
“It has, honestly, in almost 20 years of search and rescue, been one of the most involved searches I’ve ever been involved in,” Duncan said.
Search teams operated through the night and deployed advanced tools including infrared technology and cellphone detection equipment. Resources arrived from across British Columbia, with teams travelling from communities ranging from Pemberton to Mission, as well as from Vancouver Island.
Multiple Agencies Joined the Search Effort
The RCMP confirmed that its police dog services, Lower Mainland Emergency Response Team, and Air Services all participated in the operation. The Sea to Sky Gondola team also contributed alongside Squamish Search and Rescue volunteers and personnel.
Squamish Search and Rescue acknowledged the broad community response in a social media post following the rescue. “A heartfelt thank you to every SAR team, first responder, volunteers and everyone else who played a part in the search — and to everyone who shared, supported, and kept hope,” the team wrote.
Police confirmed they would not release further details about the Stanislav Volo search and rescue operation, citing respect for his privacy.
