A bus driver faces a careless driving charge after a passenger bus overturned in northern Ontario, sending 17 people to hospital with minor injuries, police say.
Ontario Provincial Police responded to the crash on Highway 17, roughly 25 kilometres north of Wawa, shortly before 7 a.m. Tuesday. The bus had rolled onto its side and ended up in a ditch.
Emergency crews treated multiple passengers at the scene. All 17 were later taken to hospital and have since been released.
Investigators determined the driver was at fault and charged the individual with careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act. The driver’s name and the cause of the crash have not been released.
Crews remained at the site Tuesday to remove the overturned bus. OPP are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage to contact the Superior East Wawa detachment.
