Comedian Tiffany Haddish was sentenced to 12 months of probation on Tuesday after pleading guilty to a misdemeanour DUI charge tied to her 2022 arrest in Georgia, avoiding further jail time.
Appearing via video link, the 46-year-old *Girls Trip* star was ordered to complete a substance abuse evaluation, a DUI counselling program, and 40 hours of community service. She must also refrain from drugs and alcohol. The court credited her with time already served — less than four hours in custody following her January 2022 arrest.
During the hearing, Judge Jason Thompson asked if she was entering the plea voluntarily. Haddish replied that while she “would like to fuss a little,” she agreed in order to move on, adding she was eager to begin community service that she believes “is going to change lives.” Her legal team indicated she plans to satisfy the hours through advocacy work with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
The charge stemmed from an incident in Peachtree City, Georgia, where a 911 caller reported seeing someone apparently asleep behind the wheel of a running SUV. Police stopped Haddish as she pulled into a neighbourhood. Her lawyers had previously sought to dismiss the case over delays, arguing the four-year wait violated her right to a speedy trial, but the judge rejected that motion, noting the defence had requested some of the postponements.
Haddish also faced a separate DUI arrest in California in November 2023. In that case, she pleaded no contest to a vehicle code violation in February 2024, resulting in dropped misdemeanour DUI charges and another year of probation, along with community service, a driver’s education program, and a Mothers Against Drunk Driving victim impact program.
