Interscope Geffen A&M has promoted three senior executives into newly defined leadership roles, reshaping its creative and urban divisions under a structure designed to better support artists across the label’s full roster.
Michelle An Becomes President and Chief Creative Officer
Michelle An has been elevated to President and Chief Creative Officer at Interscope Geffen A&M. She reports directly to John Janick, Chairman and CEO of Interscope Capitol. An previously led IGA’s Pop/Rock division, and her expanded role now spans the entire label.

In her new position, An will focus on helping artists develop the worlds surrounding their music. That includes visual identity, storytelling, brand development, and long-term career strategy. Her promotion signals a broader creative vision for the label as a whole.
Janick praised An’s instincts in a statement accompanying the announcement. “Michelle has one of the clearest creative instincts in the business,” he said. “She helps artists make the world around their music feel bold, fully realized and unmistakably their own.”
Laura Carter and Ramon Alvarez-Smikle Lead Urban Division
Laura Carter and Ramon Alvarez-Smikle have both been promoted to Co-Presidents of Urban at Interscope Geffen A&M. They also report to Janick and will work closely alongside An in their new roles.
Carter brings deep artist relationships and strong creative judgment to the position. Janick noted that she has earned significant trust through her commitment to developing talent over time.
Alvarez-Smikle’s role carries an additional responsibility. Beyond leading the urban division, he will oversee the development and scaling of digital systems and infrastructure across the entire IGA roster. That scope covers both the Urban and Pop/Rock sides of the label.
Janick described the two executives as bringing complementary strengths to the division. “Ramon brings cultural instinct, deep digital expertise and a sharp understanding of how artists build audiences and communities,” he said. Together, he added, Carter and Alvarez-Smikle will connect A&R, marketing, and digital strategy around each artist’s vision.
A New Structure Built Around Artists
The three promotions reflect a deliberate effort to align IGA’s leadership more closely with how modern artists build their careers. The label aims to give its Urban artists greater clarity, momentum, and impact through the new structure.
Janick framed the changes as consistent with the label’s identity. “IGA has always been defined by original voices and by the teams who back those voices with taste, conviction and care,” he said. The new leadership team positions the label to deliver that support more effectively across all its divisions.
