Sudeikis Hopes for Ted Lasso Season 5
Host Sam Fragoso asked Sudeikis directly whether he wanted to continue Ted Lasso for Seasons 5 and 6, following the Season 4 finale, which aired earlier this month. Sudeikis said he would like to continue the show. However, he acknowledged that no firm plans are in place.
“Yeah, I just don’t know,” he told Fragoso, adding that he was not being intentionally evasive. “We haven’t started a writers’ room or anything like that,” he noted. He also said he would assume Apple would continue the series if the main cast wanted to return.
How the Show Helped Him Through a Dark Period
Sudeikis also returned to a subject he has touched on before — the role Ted Lasso played in protecting his mental health. He described the show as having saved him from “some form of self-harm. Flat out.”
He said the feelings he experienced took him back to “the confusing teenage years.” He reflected on the shame those thoughts stirred in him. “How dare you have those kinds of thoughts,” he recalled thinking.
The former Saturday Night Live star explained that as a teenager, he channeled difficult emotions through drumming and dancing. He drew a parallel to how the work on Ted Lasso later served a similar purpose. “To a certain degree, it helped and it carried me, as sometimes the work has done in the past,” he said.
Sudeikis Reflects on Olivia Wilde Split
The conversation also turned to his separation from ex-fiancée Olivia Wilde. Sudeikis attracted significant media attention in 2022 when Wilde received child custody documents while appearing at CinemaCon. Fragoso asked what Sudeikis felt the public coverage of their split had missed.
“Oh, gosh. I mean, a million little things,” he responded. He added that going through such an experience builds empathy for others in similar situations.
Sudeikis pushed back against the tendency to reduce complex personal situations to simple narratives of right and wrong. “These interpersonal situations get portrayed as binary situations of right and wrong,” he said. “It’s always more complicated, more human than that.”
He was also generous in his words about Wilde’s professional achievements. “Olivia loves what she does and is very, very good at it, and always has been,” he said. “I’m thrilled for her.” Wilde is currently part of the awards conversation for her work on The Invite.
Overall, the interview offered a rare and personal look at Sudeikis beyond his public persona, touching on creative ambition, mental health and the human complexity behind headline-grabbing stories.
