Anna Faris has responded publicly to comments made about her by television producer Chuck Lorre in his new memoir, saying the remarks were painful but expressing continued gratitude for her time on the CBS sitcom Mom. Faris posted a statement on Instagram on Thursday addressing Lorre’s suggestion that his early doubts about casting her ultimately proved correct.
“Yikes,” she wrote. “Yes, I read a few things. I really didn’t see that coming. Of course it hurts.” Despite the sting of his words, Faris said she remained proud of the work she and her colleagues produced. “Chuck gave me a job I loved, and for seven years I never took a day of it for granted,” she wrote. “I’m proud of what we made together, and nothing changes how grateful I am for those people and those years.”

What Lorre Wrote in His Memoir
In his memoir, titled Sitcom, Lorre revealed that his difficult history with Charlie Sheen on Two and a Half Men initially made him hesitant to cast Faris. However, he wrote that he tried not to let that experience unfairly influence his decision. “Someone’s personal life is none of my business,” he wrote. “The mom in Mom would be, and should be, Anna Faris.”
Despite that initial reasoning, Lorre later changed his position. “As the years went by, it became apparent that my initial reluctance to hire Anna was, in fact, correct,” he wrote. He added that after six years, Faris left the show “for mysterious reasons that were not mysterious to anyone on the show.” Faris departed Mom in 2020, with her representatives citing a desire to “pursue new opportunities.”
About the Show and Faris’s Departure
Mom ran for eight seasons on CBS between 2013 and 2021. Faris played Christy, a recovering alcoholic rebuilding her life while her mother Bonnie, played by Allison Janney, also a recovering alcoholic, moved in with her. The show continued after Faris left and concluded its run in 2021.
Faris Opens Up About Her Sobriety
In the same Instagram statement, Faris made a personal disclosure. She revealed that she has now been sober for a year and a half. “I was on a show about recovery, and then I lived it,” she wrote.
Faris also offered an encouraging message to anyone facing similar struggles. “Now I’m healthy, I’m working, and I’m happier than I’ve been in a long time,” she wrote. “If anyone reading this is where I was, I hope that’s useful. It gets better. I’m proof.” Her statement drew a clear line between the professional dispute with Lorre and her own personal journey, framing her recovery as the more meaningful part of her story.
