The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have acquired another quarterback from the Ottawa RedBlacks, completing their second such trade with the club this season. The Bombers secured the negotiation rights to college prospect Ty Pennington on Wednesday, sending American linebacker Kyahva Tezino to Ottawa in return.
Tezino had only joined the Bombers practice roster just over a week before the deal. His brief stay in Winnipeg ended quickly as the organization shifted its focus toward adding the promising signal-caller to its prospect pipeline.

Who Is Ty Pennington?
Pennington is currently in his senior season at Northern Arizona University, where he plays for the Lumberjacks. The 6-foot-2, 220-pound quarterback stands out as one of the more efficient passers in the Big Sky Conference. He opened his final collegiate campaign with two touchdown passes in Northern Arizona’s season-opening win last weekend.
Over 25 collegiate games, Pennington has thrown for 5,568 yards and accumulated 34 touchdown passes against just seven interceptions. He also adds value as a dual-threat player, rushing for 691 yards and nine touchdowns throughout his college career. His performance in 2024 earned him Big Sky Conference Newcomer of the Year honours.
Pennington Added to Exclusive Negotiation List
With the trade finalized, Pennington moves onto the Bombers’ exclusive negotiation list. That designation gives Winnipeg the sole right to negotiate a professional contract with him once his collegiate eligibility concludes.
This marks the second time this season the Bombers have targeted a quarterback through a trade with Ottawa. Back in June, Winnipeg acquired quarterback Dru Brown from the RedBlacks in a separate deal. The back-to-back moves signal a clear organizational interest in building depth at the position for the future.
The Ty Pennington trade reflects Winnipeg’s ongoing strategy of identifying and securing promising young quarterbacks before they hit the open market.
