Miguel Ángel García-Hernández, 32, died Tuesday after doctors removed him from life support. His family confirmed his death through the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC). García-Hernández was one of three detainees struck by gunfire in the Sept. 24 Dallas ICE shooting. Previously, Norlan Guzman-Fuentes died at the scene.
Gunman Fired Indiscriminately
Authorities identified the shooter as 29-year-old Joshua Jahn. According to police, Jahn opened fire from a rooftop overlooking the Dallas immigration field office. He hated the U.S. government and, as a result, wanted to spread terror by targeting federal agents. However, no ICE personnel suffered injuries. Jahn ended the attack by killing himself moments later.

Family Statement Reveals Pain
In addition, García-Hernández’s wife, Stephany Gauffeny, shared her heartbreak in a statement released by LULAC.
“My husband Miguel was a good man, a loving father, and the provider for our family,” she said. “We had just bought our first home together, and he worked hard every single day to make sure our children had what they needed. His death is a senseless tragedy that has left our family shattered. I do not know how to explain to our children that their father is gone.”
Moreover, LULAC confirmed that Gauffeny is expecting their fifth child, making the tragedy even more devastating for the family.
Rising Tensions Over Immigration Enforcement
Meanwhile, the Dallas ICE shooting has fueled broader concerns about immigration enforcement in the United States. Activists argue that such violence increases fear among immigrant communities. Furthermore, they believe the attack highlights the need for greater dialogue on ICE’s role and practices.
