Prince Harry has resigned as a patron of Sentebale, the charity he co-founded nearly two decades ago in honor of his late mother, Princess Diana. His decision, made alongside co-founder Prince Seeiso of Lesotho, follows an irreparable conflict between the organization’s trustees and chairwoman, Sophie Chandauka.
In a joint statement, Harry and Seeiso expressed their disappointment, citing the breakdown in leadership as the reason for their departure. “The situation has become untenable,” they said, adding that they stand by the trustees who requested Chandauka’s resignation.
However, Chandauka has challenged her removal, taking legal action in the UK and filing complaints with the Charity Commission. She has also made allegations of misconduct within the organization, accusing it of poor governance, abuse of power, and harassment.
The dispute has drawn the attention of the Charity Commission, which is now assessing the governance concerns. Meanwhile, Harry and Seeiso have pledged to cooperate fully with the investigation, emphasizing their continued commitment to Sentebale’s mission of supporting children affected by AIDS in Lesotho and Botswana.
Despite stepping down as patrons, they affirmed, “We will always be the founders of Sentebale and remain dedicated to its cause.”
