OKLAHOMA CITY — A former pastor of a prominent Texas megachurch, Robert Preston Morris, has turned himself in to Oklahoma authorities following allegations of child sexual abuse.
The 63-year-old was charged last week with five counts of lewd or indecent acts with a child. He surrendered in Osage County on Monday, where a judge set his bond at $50,000 and ordered him to hand over his passport.
Morris, who previously led Gateway Church in Southlake, Texas, resigned last year after allegations surfaced that he abused a girl in the 1980s. The victim, now 55, says the abuse began when she was 12 and continued for four years while Morris was a traveling evangelist.
His attorney has indicated he will plead not guilty. If convicted, Morris could face up to 20 years in prison for each charge.
