Boston, MA — July 20, 2025 — The chief executive of data technology company Astronomer, Andy Byron, has resigned following the viral circulation of a video allegedly showing him in an intimate moment with a colleague at a Coldplay concert.
The video, which captured a man and woman embracing on a “kiss cam” during the band’s Boston show, quickly spread across social media. As speculation mounted, users alleged that the individuals — both senior leaders at Astronomer — were involved in an affair. The man in the video was widely claimed to be Byron, though the company has never officially confirmed his identity.
Initially placed on leave, Byron formally stepped down three days after the clip surfaced. In a statement released Saturday on Astronomer’s social media channels, the company confirmed his resignation had been accepted by the board and that the search for a new CEO is underway.
“Before this week, we were known for pioneering DataOps, supporting data teams in everything from analytics to AI,” the statement read. “While public attention has shifted, our mission remains unchanged: solving the toughest data and AI challenges for our clients.”
In the widely shared video, the pair are seen with arms around each other before noticing themselves on the big screen. The man ducks out of view while the woman turns away, just as Coldplay frontman Chris Martin jokingly comments, “Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy.”
The moment, intended for entertainment, quickly turned controversial. On Friday, Astronomer said it had launched a formal internal investigation. The company also discredited a purported statement from Byron circulating online, calling it fake and noting that he had made no public comment.
While the kiss cam clip may have offered a fleeting moment of humor to concertgoers, its fallout has now reshaped the leadership of a prominent player in the tech industry.
