In the eastern German city of Gera, a man attacked a woman on a tram on Sunday by pouring a liquid on her and setting her on fire, leaving her with life-threatening injuries. The suspect fled the scene immediately after the attack.
Passengers triggered the emergency stop button, allowing the tram doors to open, which gave the assailant a chance to escape. The tram driver quickly extinguished the flames with a fire extinguisher, and the 46-year-old victim was airlifted to the hospital.
Police are now searching for the woman’s husband, who is also 46. Authorities have urged the public to report any sightings of him, warning that he may pose a threat to others.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and officials have not yet confirmed what kind of liquid was used in the assault.
