Influencer brothers Andrew and Tristan Tate are now formally facing criminal charges in the United Kingdom, including rape, human trafficking, and assault, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) confirmed Wednesday.
The high-profile social media figures — both dual U.S.-British citizens — have been charged with offenses committed between 2012 and 2015, long before their move to Romania in 2016. While arrest warrants were issued in January last year, this marks the first public confirmation of criminal proceedings in the U.K.
Andrew Tate, 38, is accused of 10 offenses involving three women, including rape, actual bodily harm, human trafficking, and profiting from controlled prostitution. His brother Tristan, 36, faces 11 similar charges involving one woman.
The CPS noted that the brothers will be extradited to the U.K. after their ongoing legal case in Romania is resolved. The Romanian courts have approved the transfer order in principle.
Both men are already facing serious charges in Romania, where they were arrested in late 2022. Prosecutors there allege the Tates ran a criminal network that lured women to Romania and sexually exploited them. Andrew Tate was separately charged with rape in that case as well. The brothers have denied all allegations.
Once known for their kickboxing careers, the Tates have since built massive online followings, particularly among young men, promoting a brand of wealth, dominance, and misogyny that has sparked widespread controversy.
The brothers’ current location is uncertain, though they were recently seen outside a police station in Voluntari, Romania, where they must regularly check in as their Romanian case proceeds. A spokesperson for the Tates declined to comment.
