New Brunswick is bracing for a storm bringing heavy rain, strong winds, and freezing rain, prompting a series of weather warnings across the province.
In the northeast, freezing rain warnings are in effect, with Environment Canada forecasting icy conditions from late Wednesday evening through early Thursday morning.
“Precipitation will begin as snow this afternoon, transitioning to freezing rain late this evening before turning to rain early Thursday morning,” the advisory states.
Hazardous conditions are expected on roads, walkways, and parking lots, increasing the risk of ice buildup and potential power outages.
Meanwhile, southwestern New Brunswick faces rainfall warnings, with forecasts predicting up to 40 mm of rain by Thursday evening. Additional heavy rainfall is expected later that night, raising concerns about flash flooding and water accumulation on roads.
“Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible,” warns Environment Canada.
CTV Atlantic meteorologist Kalin Mitchell reports that the storm’s center will approach New Brunswick by early Friday morning, bringing strong winds that will taper off in New Brunswick and western Nova Scotia by Thursday evening. The remainder of the Maritimes can expect wind conditions to ease between Thursday night and Friday morning.
