Eight people lost their lives, and 17 others were injured in a mass stabbing incident at a college campus in Yixing, eastern China, on Saturday evening, according to local police.
The attack occurred around 6:30 p.m. on November 16, 2024, at the Wuxi Vocational Institute of Arts and Technology. Authorities confirmed the suspect, a recent graduate of the college, was apprehended at the scene. According to a police statement, the attack was motivated by the suspect’s frustration over failing an exam, not receiving a graduation certificate, and dissatisfaction with internship compensation. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
This tragedy comes after other recent violent incidents in China. In September, a knife attack at a Shanghai supermarket claimed three lives and injured 15 people. That same month, a bus plowed into a group of students and parents outside a school in Tai’an city, Shandong province, killing 11 and injuring 13. Officials have not yet clarified whether the bus incident was accidental or intentional.
