Ottawa | July 16, 2025 — Canada’s long-awaited Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) is officially opening its 2025 intake at the end of this month. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced that up to 10,000 complete sponsorship applications will be accepted this year, with invitations to apply (ITAs) being issued starting July 28, 2025, over a period of approximately two weeks.
This year’s intake continues to draw exclusively from the pool of interest to sponsor forms submitted in 2020. Potential sponsors who submitted a form but haven’t received an ITA are urged to check the email address provided in 2020, including junk and spam folders, to avoid missing the opportunity.
Due to the large number of unprocessed submissions from 2020, no new intake forms will be accepted this year. Instead, IRCC will continue to issue invitations from the existing pool.
Those who receive an invitation can submit their applications electronically through either the Permanent Residence Portal or the Representative Permanent Residence Portal.
Applicants not selected in the 2025 draw still have an alternative: the Super Visa program. This long-term multiple-entry visa allows parents and grandparents to stay in Canada for up to five years per visit, with options to extend their stay by up to two more years without leaving the country. The Super Visa remains a viable option for families awaiting sponsorship opportunities.
